Review of Los Angeles, California

LA LA Land
Star Rating - 12/22/2017
I grew up in LA in both the Redondo Beach and Eagle Rock Area. After moving out of state for college, I moved back and now live in North Hollywood. Hopefully not for long....

Pros: LA has some of the best food, night life, and attractions in the US-if not the world. The biggest acts always come to town. The beaches are nice. It's an opportunity to meet/ hang out with people from all over the world.

Cons: Literally, we have the worst traffic in the US! We spend 40 hours more a year than the average american in our car. A FULL WEEK. Google it if you don't believe me. Parking is almost always terrible and the public transportation is inadequate. The Real Estate prices are crazy here. The middle class is getting shafted! The Median home price is $500 K + for LA county, 2 X + the national average, even though we don't make anywhere close to twice the median income (only $5K more a year).

If you need constant sunshine and you don't mind rude, shallow people, traffic, and crazy home prices, go ahead and stay. There is a lot to do here. As for me, I'm getting out while I still can.

Your list of pros is funny. "Great nightlife" "best attractions". Only someone who grew up in LA and hasn't been around much could possibly say that. Last call is at 1:30 AM. Vegas is 24 hours in New York City might as well be. South Beach… Top five most polluted beaches in the United States. Santa Monica, Malibu and three others. I would not call the beach and attraction but rather a detraction. What else let's see… Magic Mountain and Disneyland. Anaheim gangs and high crime. The mountains are parched with very little green and those that do have some trees are due to get burned down in the yearly firestorms that pervade the state. You mentioned that you get to meet people from all over. 90% of all new transplants to Los Angeles are Mexican/Asian. If that's your thing fine but if you're looking to meet sophisticated and educated Europeans from Sweden or Norway or Denmark for a couple of dozen other European cities good luck with that. I spend half the year in Lake Geneva Switzerland and the other half living in Vienna Austria I can promise you isn't the one of them that has ever had the desire to visit Los Angeles no less live there. Travel overseas if you can afford it spent two years living in culturally advanced first world cities and yes I am referring to Europe, and then look back your rearview mirror and come back on this site and post what you think about Los Angeles upon reflection.

I love LA. I drive less here than when I lived in both Seattle and Washington DC. The idea in any city is live close to your job. I live 10 minutes from my job which truly makes a difference. You say public transportation is nonexistent here? Are you kidding me?

Los Angeles is a city of lost souls. Lots and lots of lost souls. There's some decent but misguided people there. Really sad.
